The poster for the Longines Global Champions Tour - Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping 2023 entrusted to the visual artist from Kinshasa, Willys Kezy

For the 9th edition of the LGCT-LPEJ, the visual artist from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Willys Kezy, created the poster.

The artist created a painting in an almost childish style reminiscent of Babar's drawings, both timeless and very Parisian. She integrated elements from the life of Virginie Coupérie. Willys Kezy, who arrived in France as an adult, places femininity at the heart of his work.

A poster that pays tribute to femininity and sorority.

Willys Kezy pays tribute to the duo of sisters at the head of the LGCT-LPEJ “I like working with passionate and committed women,” confides the Congolese artist, youngest of seven children, who says she is very sensitive to concept of family. For her, “seeing two sisters promote their passion and the history of a family in the most beautiful city in the world” is a source of inspiration and admiration. To create the poster, the artist studied the history of the Coupérie-Eiffel family and it is this experience that she incorporated into her work. For example, it topped the Eiffel Tower with the French flag which was originally there, when it was created by Gustave Eiffel, the ancestor of Virginie and her sister Coco

The horse, symbol of elegance

The horse is an animal that touches Willys Kezy for the pace and power it exudes, particularly in its way of asserting itself and forming a couple with the rider. “I like the way the horse engages with the obstacle and the concentration he maintains after having overcome it. It doesn't matter if a bar falls or not, he channels his energy and prepares to negotiate the next obstacle. »

Creativity, freedom of expression and female emancipation

These three values are those that Willys Kezy defends throughout his work. In his paintings, drawings, collages and performances, the artist evokes his personal history marked by the Congolese social and cultural universe. She questions the place and status of women in Kinshasa and is interested in emigration and the tragedies it causes. Values in which the Longines Global Champions Tour - Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping recognizes itself.
